With a love for her community and a passion for historical preservation, Glena Belle Crane of Cheyenne, OK has given a permanent memorial donation to the town of Cheyenne.
The black India and white Sierra memorial etched marker in set in the Cheyenne Cemetery, on Highway 47, west of Cheyenne. It is located at the first entrance into the cemetery from the highway.
With the help of Brad Whinery of Whinery-Savage Funeral Service, Glena Belle chose the materials, designed the marker, and also chose the location where she wanted to place the marker at the cemetery.
Glena Belle states, “The saying that is etched in the marker is from a copy that I had received at some point and time. I held onto the copy, because for me, the words were very meaningful and thought-provoking.”
“I had known for some time that I wanted to somehow place a permanent copy within the cemetery, but I wasn’t sure how to create a weatherproof and long lasting display.”
The marker is given by: Glena Crane Family- Glen and Glena Belle Crane, Joe Glen Crane, Rogna (Crane) and David Kirby, and Dawn (Kirby) and Will Becker and their children, Anna and Luke Becker.
The Poem reads…
This Is A Cemetery
Lives are commemorated- deaths are recorded- families are reunited- memories are made tangible- and love is undisguised. This is a cemetery.
Communities accord respect, families bestow reverence, historians, seek information and our heritage is thereby enriched.
Testimonies of devotion, pride and remembrance are carved in stone to pay warm tribute to accomplishments and to the life- not death- of a loved one. The cemetery is homeland for family memorials that are a sustaining source of comfort to the living.
A cemetery is a history of people- a perpetual record of yesterday and a sanctuary of peace and quiet today. A cemetery exists because every life is worth loving and remembering- always.
