ACCO Hosts 2005 Conference in OKC
(Oklahoma City) - The Association of County Commissioners of Oklahoma, (ACCO),
recently hosted their November 2005 Fall Conference at the Marriott Hotel in
Oklahoma City. Joining the county commissioners by participating in training and
information exchange opportunities were other county and state elected officials
and county staff. Attendees also viewed the newest products and equipment by
vendors at both outside and indoor displays.
The general session included the
election of the ACCO Executive Board members for 2006-2007. Newly elected ACCO
Executive Officers were: ACCO President, Mike Thompson from Johnston County;
ACCO Vice President, Skip Wood from Major County and ACCO Secretary/Treasurer,
Jerry Dean from Roger Mills County.
Guest speaker was Dr. Robert Whitson,
OSU Dean of Agriculture. Some of the training opportunities during the
conference included Bridge Replacement procedures; Work Comp and Liability
insurance by Attorney Larry Derryberry; Functional Classification routes and
maps by ODOT; 911 cell phone issue; Legislative process by Joe Fox and Senator
Dave Herbert; Consumable reports and purchasing by Jeff McMahan, State Auditor
and Inspector and staff; IRS issues by Pat O'Neil; Internet Communications by
ACCO; and the OSU taught accreditation classes," Duties and responsibilities of
Councils, Commissions, Boards and Trusts" and "Documentation and File Building."
The conference concluded with an
interim study on weight limits. Oklahoma Legislators, Oklahoma Municipal League
and others joined the commissioners in reviewing data on county road and bridge
destruction from over weight vehicles. A group workshop was also held at the
State Capitol to train county commissioner's secretaries on the Oklahoma
Information Legislation system.
