50 YEARS AGO

        The four high individuals in the Roger Mills County 4-H Land Judging Contest went to Fairview to compete in the District Contest. This team was composed of Eugene Burns, Reydon; Deloris Dill, Reydon; Glenn Taylor; Reydon and Sterling Wayne McColgin, Reydon. This team placed 8th in the district contest. In the County contest, Eugene Burns was high individual and in the District contest, “Buddy” McColgin was high individual for Roger Mills County.

        One of the most outstanding community meetings of the year was that at Meridian last Tuesday night when Mrs. Dutch Robinson, Mrs. Durward York and Mrs. Elmer Miller were hostesses. Approximately fifty people from Cheyenne were present for the meeting, at which the program was sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of this city.

        An appeal has been made to Governor Gary to have Roger Mills County, declared in the disaster area again, according to a statement issued by Rep. Glenn E. Estes of Durham. If the county is included in the drought disaster area it will be a great advantage to farmers in securing feed.

        SENIOR in REVIEW: Jay Roger Dean – future plans to got to California, plans ten years ago were to be an Air Force Pilot. Favorite pastime is hunting and fishing; most disliked food is lunchmeat and most disliked color is purple. Something he’s never eaten but would like to is pheasant under glass. One thing he has learned in high school is never argue with Mr. Ellis. Someplace he would like to go is Brazil. His favorite subject is Math; favorite song is the Great Pretender and favorite flower is a red rose.

        SENIOR in REVIEW: Melva Lois Summers – Favorite pastime is daydreaming; favorite flower is orchid and favorite song is I’ll Be Home. Future plans are to get married and plans ten years ago were to be a big game hunter. Someplace she has always wanted to go is Africa. Favorite subject is Literature; most disliked food is cooked cabbage; most disliked color is yellow. Hobbies are sports and music and activities are basketball, bearettes, glee club, letterman’s club, girl’s trio, annual staff and honor society. Something she has never drunk but would like to is champagne and one thing she has learned in high school is it’s better to keep you mouth shut and appear a fool, than open it and remove all doubt.

        The people of the Durham community were awakened Sunday morning by a brisk shower that resulted in almost one-fourth inch of moisture.

        SENIOR in REVIEW: Robert Dearing – Future plans are to go to college and plans ten years ago were to be a bootlegger. Favorite pastime is fighting with fellow classmates. Someplace he has always wanted to go is Siberia. Most disliked food, nope he likes everything; most disliked color is purple. Something he has never eaten but would like to is shrimp cocktail. One thing he has learned in high school is not to run through plate glass windows. His activities include baseball, basketball, track, annual staff and FFA.

        Thirty-six members of the Crawford community met at the Baptist church recently and organized the Crawford Christian Youth Fellowship. The aim of the organization is to promote a better understanding of the gospel of Christ among the young people. President of the group is Ronnie Martin. Other officers elected are Peggy Park, VP; Sue Martin, secretary; Mary Nell Robinson, treasurer; Sherry Graham, pianist; Lloydell Martin, song leader; Ray Don Jackson, Barbara Flue and Barbara Boyd, entertainment committee; Jo Ann Butler, Joe Lee Jackson and James Robertson, refreshment committee; Sandra Flue, Barry Graham and Olivia Watson, finance committee.
