ROGER MILLS COUNTY ELECTION BOARD

Registered voters in Roger Mills County who want to vote by absentee ballot in next Tuesday’s Runoff Primary Election have missed the deadline to apply for a ballot to be mailed to them, County Election Board Secretary Donna L. Eakins said today.

“They aren’t out of luck, however,” Eakins said.

Voters who want to vote absentee ballots still can do so at the County Election board office on Friday, August 18, 8:00 – 6:00, Saturday, August 19, 8:00 – 1:00, or Monday, August 21, 8:00 – 6:00.  A two member bipartisan Absentee Voting Board will be on duty each day to assist in-person absentee voters.

“In-person absentee voters fill out an application form when they get to the office.  They are not required to give a reason for voting absentee,” Eakins said.  “They are required to swear that they have not voted a regular mail absentee ballot and that they will not vote at their polling places on Election day.”

According to Eakins, the Absentee Voting Board verifies a voter’s registration information then issues the voter’s ballots.  The voter marks the ballots in a voting booth and then puts them in the voting device.  “It is very much like voting at a precinct polling place,” said Eakins.

In addition, any registered voter who becomes physically incapacitated after 5 p.m. Tuesday, August 15, won’t have to miss the election.

Eakins said, state law permits registered voters who will be unable to go to the polls because they became incapacitated after 5 p.m. Tuesday, August 15, to vote on an emergency basis.  “Physical incapacitation” includes a variety of conditions, injury, illness, childbirth, the prevent a person from voting in person at the polls on election day.

If you think that you or someone you knows fits into this category, or for more information concerning in-person absentee voting, contact the County Election Board office at 497-3330.  Office hour are 8:00 – 2:00, Monday through Friday.
