Collision Takes Life of Cheyenne Citizens
A fatality collision occurred at 4:34 p.m. Monday, August 21, 2006 on Hwy 34 south of Hammon at the Kiowa Road intersection in Roger Mills County. A 2002 Lincoln driven by Erma Lea Burns, 80 years old of Cheyenne was north bound on SH 34, slowed to turn west on Kiowa Road and pulled out in front of a 2000 Peterbuilt truck driven by Gary Goodall, age 37 of Hammon. The Peterbuilt hit the Lincoln on the passenger side, went off the roadway to the right and overturned on the driver’s side. Burns was pronounced dead at the scene with massive blunt force trauma injuries. Goodall was treated and released at the scene. Seatbelts were in use in both vehicles.
The accident was investigated by Trooper Tanner Keasler of the Beckham/Roger Mills County detachment and assisted by Chris Hanover of the Dewey County Detachment, Trooper Lyle Lubbers of the Washita County Detachment, Trooper C.L. Perkins of the size and weights division, the Roger Mills County Sheriff’s Department and the Hammon Police Department.
