Blacktopping of several blocks of street in Cheyenne is in progress. This project is being made possible through the cooperation of the City of Cheyenne and Roger Mills County. The project calls for a four-inch asphalt base with a chip and oil seal on the streets, which are first engineered to slope to the center, thus forming their own gutter. Cost of the blacktopping to the property owner will be $1 per front foot. Joe Redden is furnishing the material and overseeing the construction. At the present time three blocks of the city street system are in the process of being blacktopped. It is expected that many blocks will be included in this project, according to J. Scott Vincent, president of the Town Board. This is one of the first steps Cheyenne is taking to the city more attractive during Oklahoma’s semi-centennial years, as well as to make it more attractive to the thousands of visitors expected to be in Cheyenne for the Reunion of Old Timers of the Cheyenne and Arapaho Country, April 19, 1957.
